Who We Are
The Grace Filipino Methodist Church consists of Filipino Methodists coming to Canada in the late 90s throughout the 2000s in waves of economic diaspora.
As is common to Filipino migrants, there was a longing for us to look for a church that fosters common cultural values and traditions we all grew up in.
GFMCE is an independent church that honors its historical roots in the United Methodist Church in the Philippines while striving to be firmly grounded in Scripture alone. It humbly seeks to uphold biblical doctrine and practice, continually reforming according to God's Word and setting aside traditions, legalism, and man-centered theology that are inconsistent with Scripture.
Its established polity as an independent church was intended to reflect the Filipinos' way of life in the present reality and landscape of the Canadian society.
Our Mission
Grace Filipino Methodist Church of Edmonton exists to glorify God by nurturing Christ-centered disciples through the faithful ministry of the Word, loving fellowship, and proclaiming the Gospel to all nations. (Matthew 28:19–20).
According to Scripture, we accomplish this mission by faithfully proclaiming, preserving, and displaying the gospel of Jesus Christ through the preaching of the Word, sound teaching, and lives transformed by the grace of God, thereby making disciples and fulfilling the Great Commission.
Proclaim the Gospel:
Jesus charged the apostles with proclaiming the gospel to all nations (Matthew 28:18-20), and the church is established to carry out that task. Preaching the gospel is central to the church's mission (2 Timothy 2:15, 4:2).
Preserve the Gospel:
The church is called to preserve the true gospel throughout the ages by faithfully preaching it, refuting false teachings, and maintaining doctrinal and moral purity.
“Hold fast the pattern of sound words which you have heard from me, in faith and love which are in Christ Jesus”. 2 Timothy 1:13
Live the Gospel:
The church is called to be a vivid, living color display of the gospel it preaches through the holy lives of its members and its unity-in-diversity.
“Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.” — Matthew 5:16
Make Disciples:
The church's mission also involves making disciples of Jesus Christ through teaching and baptizing those who believe.
“Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.” — Matthew 28:19
Serve:
The church is called to serve others, both within and outside of its community, as an expression of the gospel message.
“Through love serve one another.” — Galatians 5:13
Every Christian's Role:
Every baptized person is called to witness and announce the Gospel to all people.
